Released germplasmHard Red Winter WheatsBond CLDeveloper(s): S. Haley, Colorado State University Pedigree: Bond CL is a doubled-haploid line derived from the cross Yumar// TXGH12588-120*4 / FS2 Main features: Bond CL is a hard red winter wheat adapted to dryland production in eastern Colorado and the west-central Great Plains. It is tolerant to the imazamox herbicide and carries the Dn4 gene, which confers resistance to the "Biotype 1" of the Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia), although it is susceptible to a new biotype of RWA identified in Colorado in 2003. Bond CL is moderately susceptible to stem rust, leaf rust and stripe rust. It shows moderate susceptibility to wheat streak mosaic virus. In greenhouse seedling screening tests, Bond CL is resistant to greenbug biotype E and susceptible to the Great Plains biotype of Hessian fly. For information on yield, milling and bread-baking characteristitcs, please visit the description of Bond CL on the web site of the Wheat Breeding and Genetics Program, Colorado State University. Seed request: You can send your written request to Scott Haley. PI 638535Developer(s): K. K. Kidwell Pedigree: WA007869*4 / Glupro Main features: PI 638535 is a hard red winter wheat. It contains a chromosome region on 6BS from Glupro that was projected to result in a 1 to 2 % increase in grain protein concentration. This line also carries a durable stripe rust resistance gene, Yr36, that is closely linked to the high grain protein concentration region . PI 638535 has higher grain protein concentration than both the recurrent and donor parents, along with improved milling and baking quality compared to the recurrent parent. This line is adapted to the semi-arid production areas of eastern Washington, and initial replicated field trials have shown it has superior agronomic performance, high grain protein content and excellent milling baking quality characteristics. Seed request: Check first seed availability at GRIN. PI 638535. In case seed is not available from GRIN, direct your written request to the breeder, K. K. Kidwell. PI 638512 (Hatcher)Developer(s): S. Haley, Colorado State University Pedigree: Yuma / PI 372129 // TAM 200 / 3 / 4* Yuma /4/ KS91H184 / Vista Main features: Hatcher is a hard red winter wheat, adapted to non-irrigated production in easter Colorado and the west-central Great Plains. This line carries the Dn4 gene, which confers resistance to the "Biotype 1" of the Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia). Hatcher is moderately susceptible to stem rust, leaf rust and stripe rust, and susceptible to both wheat streak mosaic virus and barley yellow dwarf virus. It shows a heterogeneous resistance to the Great Plains biotype of Hessian fly, and is susceptible to greenbug (Schizaphis graminum). Grain yields of Hatcher were slightly lower than Trego but higher than all other entries tested included in the 22 trial locations of the dryland Colorado Uniform Variety Performance Trial (2001-2004), which included Ankor, Prairie Red and Yumar. Values for milling-related variables were generally superior for Hatcher relative to both Ankor (average overall milling and baking quality) and Prowers 99 (excellent overall milling and baking quality), while values for baking-related variables were generally intermediate for Hatcher, between Ankor and Prowers 99. You can get detailed information and a more thorough description of this line on the web site of the Wheat Breeding and Genetics Program, Colorado State University. If you have access to Crop Science you can see the article following this link. Pedigree: 'Karl 92' / PI 94641 // 'Jagger'*2 / Karl 92 Main features: KS99WGRC42 is a hard red winter wheat with resistance to the Hessian fly, including the Biotype L. This line is similar to Karl 92 height and days to heading. In different field tests it showed no symptoms of stripe rust or infection by the wheat soilborne mosaic virus. However, high levels of leaf rust were observed. The Notice of Release contains more information about KS99WGRC42. This Notice is available from the Wheat Genetics Resource Center. Seed request: Check first seed availability at GRIN. Query GRIN with PI 635054 (as of April 20 2005, this germplasm was not recorded yet). In case seed is not available from GRIN, you can check at the Wheat Genetics Resource Center or direct your written request to the breeder, Gina Brown-Guedira. |
