Position Description:
This 12-month, tenure-track position at the assistant/ associate professor rank in the Department of Plant Sciences is 90% research and 10% teaching. Research responsibilities will include beginning and developing a winter wheat breeding and genetics program and production research to support and enhance the 600,000 acres presently grown in North Dakota and Minnesota. Field and laboratory (molecular) research to enhance productivity, winter survival, disease resistance, and grain quality of winter wheat is expected. The selected individual is expected to collaborate with cereal, plant pathology, and entomology scientists, the research/extension centers, and the national and international wheat research community to help reach the goal of improving winter wheat for North Dakota and Minnesota producers. The selected candidate is also expected to write grants, generate extramural funds to conduct research on winter wheat, publish research results in scientific journals, and disseminate research findings to end users. Teaching responsibilities will include a graduate or undergraduate-level course in introductory plant breeding during the fall semester. In addition, the selected individual is expected to advise graduate students, interact with commodity groups and end users including the wheat industry, participate in departmental and university activities, attend and participate in annual field days, and be a collegial member of a 40-member department.  
Minimum Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in breeding/genetics, demonstrated experience in practical field and laboratory research, good knowledge of agronomy/production concepts in wheat and statistical analysis, superior written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work as a team member in a diverse department.  
Preferred Qualifications:
Qualification preferred but not required are applied small-grain breeding/genetics experience, university teaching, advising experience, farm background, and experience in writing grant applications.
